Computer Engineering Professor Tracy Larrabee of the Baskin School of Engineering will oversee UCSC's research collaborations at the Silicon Valley Center, building connections among Santa Cruz faculty, Silicon Valley companies, and NASA researchers.
In annoucing the new appointment, Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Kliger wrote as follows:
I am delighted to announce that Tracy Larrabee, professor of computer engineering, has accepted the position of Associate Vice Provost for Silicon Valley Initiatives on a 50 percent basis.
Among other duties, Professor Larrabee will be the academic point of contact for UCSC's Silicon Valley Initiatives and will oversee the University Affiliated Research Center and the Advanced Studies Laboratory, including the Bio-Info-Nano Research and Development Institute. She will concentrate on the arts, engineering, and physical and biological sciences divisions.
Professor Larrabee's appointment as Associate Vice Provost became effective August 1, 2009. She joined the UCSC faculty in 1990. Before academia, Professor Larrabee worked in several industrial research facilities, including extensive work on government contracts. We are excited at the opportunity to strengthen ties between UC, NASA, and our Silicon Valley partners.
